I know the hairs on the back of your neck are standing up and you're ready to break out into a full on rendition of the SPRINKLER!
It's back to school time and listen, I know you love your kids like I love mine, but is your wallet screaming?! Our July electricity bill was 3x's a normal month! I'm not kidding. And I won't even talk about groceries!
While summer is a great time to reconnect with the kiddos and hug them and do super fun stuff I'm ready to say BOY BYE!
OK I digress. While I am excited that school is back in session in GA (YASS) I know that this can be a time of chaos if we aren't organized. As you prepare yourself for the onslaught of forms, I wanted to share 3 easy tips to get you off to a great year.
1. Create a school only email address: Choose your favorite free email provider and set up a new email account that you use specifically for your child's school and/or sports team. This way you never have to dig through your general email account to see if you've missed yet another PTO meeting or if you're on snack duty for little league. The great thing is, you can use the same account for all of your kids.
FUN TIP: Give your email account a cool, fun or unique name that will be sure to make the administrators smile every time they have to type it. It's a surefire way to spread a little sunshine while staying organized!
2. Take a break: It's easy for us to run from one thing to another usually on low mental fumes. Give yourself a 5 minute "woosah" moment. Put your phone down (I promise Instagram will not self destruct if you're not double tapping). Take a few deep breaths in and out (in through the nose, out through the mouth). Got it? Give yourself a temple massage or even massage your favorite lotion into your hands. Just allow your mind to just be for a moment. NOW you're ready to handle your kid duties like a boss!
FUN TIP: Rinse with mouthwash and take a cool paper towel and blot your face and neck. Then take your favorite scent and spritz it on. Next freshen up your lip product of choice, chapstick, lipstick or lip gloss. This will have you feeling like a million bucks and smiling from ear to ear as you sit in the bumper to bumper afterschool pick-up line. #Winning
3. Dance!: Listen Linda, I am convinced that kids have the hardest jobs! They have to sit still, maintain excellent behavior and move quietly through the hallways all day long! I mean really, do you not take breaks to update Facebook? After a strenuous day treat the kids to a dance party! Once seatbelts are buckled and before the earbuds go in, find a song that will be sure to get the party started. Crank it up and have a ball! Even if the kids don't join in right away, you will help to melt their stress simply by being a little goofy! The more you do it, the more they will come to expect it and enjoy it!
FUN TIP: Find a song that you loved as a kid. Sing it loud and sing it proud and don't forget to add "This was my jam!!!"
